ShiloThe main reason the farm exists is for the horses. When a horse or pony is surrendered to the farm, we evaluate it and start a rehabilitation program. That horse is immediately available for sponsorship through its rehabilitation. After the animal has recovered, it may move into a co-ownered program, or be adopted out. There are some horses with special needs, or older horses, that are given lifetime care at our farm. Although they can’t be adopted out, these animals still need sponsors and co-owners.

Occasionally, animals other than horses and ponies are placed at the farm. Please click on the Other Animals link to check out these animals.

Surrendering a Horse or Pony to the Farm
Cappy when he first came to the rescueLive and Let Live Farm does not investigate abuse or neglect cases. If an owner can no longer care for their horse or pony, they are requested to contact us directly. We arrange to make a site visit and, if there is room at the Farm, determine if and when the animal can come to us. The owner must sign complete and total ownership of their animal over to the Farm. Although there is no charge to turn over an animal to Live and Let Live Farm, we encourage owners that are surrendering their animal to make a tax deductible donation to help provide for the care of their animal. Adopting a Horse/Pony from the Farm

Peka and Cheyenne with their friendsThe first step in adopting an animal from us is to fill out a pre-adoption application and come for a tour of the Farm. General Farm tours are done every Sunday at 2:30pm. We will not adopt you a horse sight unseen. We do our best to assure a good match for both you and the horse/animal. So we ask that you first sponsor (sponsorship to adopt generally is not available for Premarins) or foster to adopt a horse first if you have other horses at home. We request that you come and spend time volunteering/working with an animal prior to adopting them. Most premarins are pre-adopted in order to be able to save them from unfortunate circumstances, as we do not have the funds to save a trailer load. If you are an experienced horse person, and would like to take the horse home for a trial period, we offer a Foster Program. We may also want to make a site visit prior to your adopting. Co-ownership is only done with special horses staying at the farm indefinitely.

There is a general office fee of $200 to adopt a horse that has been surrendered to the Farm. Along with this fee, a pre-determined, tax-deductible donation amount will be required which is computed by the amount we have invested into the animal and its abilities.

C-Angel and friendTotal adoption fees vary greatly depending on the animals needs, cost of care, capabilities, breed, all to be determined by individual animals and circumstances. Total adoption fees for horses may be from $500 to $2500 which includes the $200 administration fee. Average horse adoption is $900.

Live and Let Live Farm adoptions are done at the discretion of the Executive Director and/or the Board of Directors, with the final deciding factor being that the animal has "clicked" with the humans that want to adopt him or her. Adoptions are “as is” situations and there may be health and/or behavioral issues that Live and Let Live Farm is not aware of with the animals. Adoption fees are non-refundable. If an adoption does not work out or circumstances change that owners can no longer keep the adopted animal, the animal can be surrendered and returned to Live and Let Live Farm. Thanks to your help, these 104 horses were saved from slaughter and adopted to loving homes. Click here to read more about their story and see photos of their arrival.

PREMARIN RESCUE UNDERWAY
PMUPMUBeautiful foals, paints, draft X. Beautiful and needy horses at the slaughter house need your help to be saved. We do not have the funds to pay for these horses ahead, they must be preadopted or sponsored. We are competing with the Slaughter price of these horses to save their lives !!!!

Horses need to be preadopted or sponsored to rescue them as it costs thousands of dollars to fill a trailer and we are competing with the slaughter prices. Transportation for a tractor trailer load alone costs over $7000, and with the related costs of the transportation, feed and water stop, vet health check, coggins, boarder fees, etc. The average cost range is about $440 to $604 to get them safely to Live and Let Live Farm is determined by size/age of the horses...These horses need your help.

Don't Cry for the Horses
Anonymous Author

Don't cry for the horses that life has set free.
A million white horses forever to be.
Don't cry for the horses now in God's hand.
As they dance and they prance in a heavenly band.

They were ours as a gift, but never to keep.
As they close their eyes forever to sleep.
Their spirits unbound. On silver wings they fly.
A million white horses against the blue sky.

Look up into heaven, you'll see them above.
The horses we lost, the horses we loved.
Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time.
They were never yours - they were never mine.

Don't cry for the horses. They'll be back someday.
When our time is gone, they will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker? Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses. Love the ones that are here.

There is an Indian Legend.........
When a human dies there is a bridge he must cross to enter into heaven.
At the head of that bridge waits every animal he encountered during his lifetime .
The animals...decide which humans may cross the bridge...and which are turned away.
