Long time clicker trainer and behavior consultant, Patti Sanborn, has recently
become a Sumerel Therapy Technician. The Sumerel Therapy System is a two part
system which first locates a physical problem then, with light therapy, helps
correct those problems. The technology used in this approach has been used in
both the human and animal care industry for years with impressive results.
The first part of the STS 2 is the scanner. It uses a micro current to measure
the electrical resistance in the tissue being contacted. When living tissue
is injured there is a drop in the electrical resistance in that location. The
scanner senses those areas and gives an audible signal. Far too often horse
owners waste enormous amounts of time, energy and money trying to determine
specifically where their horse is having problems. The scanner, by pinpointing
where the problems exist, can be the solution to that dilemma. It does not label
or diagnose the problem but rather it specifically locates where problems exist
today. Injuries that are an active problem to the horse will show up. Old injuries
that have healed and are not a problem today will not show up.
After scanning the whole horse, as problems rarely occur in isolation, the
second part of the system is used. The Equine Treatment Unit stimulates the
injured areas to heal. Scientific studies along with thousands of clinical tests
have shown that certain wavelengths of light pulsed at specific frequencies
can dramatically stimulate and accelerate the healing process.
The Sumerel Therapy System or STS 2 is safe and effective. After decades of
documented success here in the US and especially in Europe, light therapy is
becoming more common. It is used for both human and equine athletes to treat
all types of injuries but also before events as a preventative to injuries.
We, at Live and Let Live Farm, are interested in alternative medical treatments
which are safe and non invasive. Used in conjunction with competent veterinary
care they can greatly increase a horse's well being. In the interest of our
goal of happy, healthy horses we promote good nutrition, proper hoof care, kind,
effective training techniques, and attention to health and healing. We are pleased
to have another method to help our horse's heal.
